Love your electricals, set your old ones free

23 June 2010

Small WEEE (large version)Has your kettle run out of steam? Is your toaster singeing your toast? Many of us are already recycling everyday items such as newspapers, cans and bottles. But did you know that old and unused electrical items can also become useful again?

To celebrate Recycle Now week (21 to 27 June), a series of three recycling roadshows are taking place in the west of the county. If you have any unwanted small waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) like toasters or kettles gathering dust in your home, take them along to one of the roadshows.

Dorset Reclaim has arranged to have special drop off points for small electrical items at the events to save you the hassle of getting rid of them.

So come along and see our recycling team at one of the following:

  • 23 June – Culverhayes car park, Sherborne – 10am to 2pm
  • 24 June – Bucky Doo Square, Bridport – 10am to 2pm
  • 25 June – South Street, Dorchester – 10am to 2pm

A weekend of recycling

17 June 2010

recycling leaflet (large version)Our recycling officers will be out and about this weekend promoting waste reduction, reuse and recycling initiatives in Dorchester and Crossways.

If you’re planning on visiting Dorchester Carnival or Crossways Village Fete, remember to stop by our waste reduction and recycling stand. This is an opportunity to chat to us about any recycling issues, our latest campaigns and pick up useful information to take away with you.

We hope to see you there!

Real nappies hit the road

Modern, colourful real nappies (large version)From baby to toddler, it’s estimated that disposable nappies cost parents around £1,000 per child. Parents and parents-to-be can cut this cost by over half by using real nappies instead.

Roadshows are taking place on:

  • 10 May 2010 Christchurch Market 8.30am – 1pm
  • 11 May 2010 Bond Street, Weymouth 9:30am – 1pm
  • 12 May 2010 South Street, Dorchester 10am – 12.30pm
  • 13 May 2010 Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre, Wimborne 10am – 12.30pm
  • 26 May 2010 Sainsbury’s, Wareham 10am – 2pm

Spotlight on…packaging

10 February 2010

Packaging leaflet (large version)Are you frustrated by the amount of packaging you throw away and want to know what is being done to reduce it?

A series of roadshows will be taking place across the county in coming weeks, where you can find out what has and is being done to reduce packaging waste and the impact it has to our environment.

Plus, did you know that an unwrapped cucumber loses moisture and becomes dull and unsaleable within three days but just 1.5 grams of wrapping keeps it fresh for 14 days? You can also find out more about how packaging reduces food waste and pick up some top packaging tips.

The first roadshow kicks-off on Tuesday 16 February at Sainsbury’s in Ferndown, so come along and see us.

Check out our full timetable of roadshows.
