Recycle that can!

Can aluminium

In the UK we only recycle 55 per cent (2011) of the drinks cans sold per year (just over 9 billion) – if everyone made an effort and we recycled all of them we would need 14 million less dustbins per year.

Recycling alumium and steel is about more than reducing the amount of waste going to landfill; it is about saving energy too. Recycling four drinks cans saves enough energy to run a washing machine for an hour. The process of making new aluminium requires many natural resourses and costs 95% more in energy than using recycled aluminium does.

Recycling cans and tins in Dorset is easy. Simply wash, squash and put them in your recycling bin. You can also take your aluminium foil to one of the mini recycling centres around the county. Don’t forget you can also recycle aerosols in Dorset, simply place them in your green box/green lid wheelie bin or take them to a mini recycling centre.

Perhaps recycling bins ought to be placed all over the boroughs along side the current public bins as they do in Bournemouth.

Nice post. We should all do our bit for the environment. Being green takes some effort but it’s completely worth it. I think there’s a lot of confusion about what can be recycled and where etc… But it’s not that hard to contact our council and find out, is it! I work for a removal company and we try and recycle at least 90% of the waste we collect!
