Swanage recycling centre to re-open

Swanage community recycling centre will re-open at 9am tomorrow (Thursday 5 September).

The facility has been closed for two days following a fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.  The site has now been made safe and cleaned thoroughly.

Thanks to local residents for their patience while the centre was closed.

Scene following fire at at Swanage recycling centre

Swanage community recycling centre will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday 4 September) and may remain closed until the weekend following a fire.

The Dorset Waste Partnership has arranged for electrical repairs and a structural survey to be carried out.  In the meantime, there is a lot of clearing up to do and the building will need cleaned thoroughly.

As a result, it is likely the site will remain closed to the public for the next few days. The DWP hopes to reopen the centre by the weekend. Please check back here, on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

New bins close-up

The ‘recycle for Dorset’ team will be at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester on Wednesday 4 September between 10am and 1pm.

Local people are invited to come along to find out more about the new ‘recycle for Dorset’ collection service, which is starting in Purbeck and part of West Dorset next March.

The roadshows are a chance to see the new wheelie bins and other containers for yourself and ask the team any questions you have.

More roadshows are scheduled across Purbeck and West Dorset during September and October.

Swanage recycling centre closed after fire

Swanage community recycling centre is closed while investigations are carried out following a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews attended the scene to put out the blaze in three waste skips in the site’s barn area. The Dorset Waste Partnership is assisting with investigations into the cause of the fire and will carry out structural surveys to assess any damage.

The centre is closed until further notice and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.  The nearest household recycling centre is at Westminster Road in Wareham.
